SfN’s FY2023 Written Testimony
Congressional testimony written by SfN President, Dr. Gina Turrigiano, was submitted to the House and Senate Commerce-Justice-Science and Labor-HHS-Education subcommittees, for both NSF and NIH respectively for FY2023. The testimonies outline the importance of basic science research, recent advancements in the field of neuroscience, and the disruption that comes from continuing resolutions.

NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare Requesting Information
The NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) has issued a request for information (RFI) from the public on flexibilities available to IACUCs for conducting semiannual program reviews. If interested, any voluntary and anonymous responses to this RFI must be submitted electronically on the RFI webpage on or before August 1.

BRAIN Initiative researchers and SfN members were recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Members of the NAS provide independent, objective advice to the nation on science and technology.
Planning Grants for future Dana Centers for Neuroscience & Society
Submit proposals for planning grants by July 6th for five-month planning grants designed to assist grantees in developing a detailed plan for a potential Dana Center for Neuroscience & Society. Grantees will receive up to $150,000 to create a vision for a center, organize and gather expertise, outline potential programs, and pilot-test a potential model for training and/or education. Recipients of planning grants will have the opportunity to submit a proposal to be considered as a candidate to host a Dana Center.

The Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology is an annual international award which goes to one young scientist for their outstanding neurobiological research, as described in an essay 1,000-words or less. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters announced the 2022 Kavli Prize Laureates. Congratulations to the awardees of the 2022 Kavli prize in Neuroscience, Jean-Louis Mandel (France), Harry T. Orr (USA), Christopher A. Walsh (USA) and Huda Y. Zoghbi (Lebanon/USA) for pioneering the discovery of genes underlying a range of serious brain disorders and establishing a blueprint for neuroscience research, diagnosis and treatment for Fragile X syndrome, spinocerebeller ataxia, Rett syndrome, and rare forms of epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder.
Applications for Focused Projects Grant for Junior Investigators are now open
The Focused Projects Grant for Junior Investigators offered by the AASM Foundation provides $40,000 for mentored research projects in an effort to jumpstart an early career investigator’s research career and provide the necessary support and resources needed to establish a track record of funding, become competitive for larger grants and/or prepare for a larger study, and enhance an early career investigator’s chances of establishing a successful career in sleep and circadian research. Applications close June 13, at 11:59 p.m. EDT
